One of my favorite TV shows is Songland. I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember. It is amazing to watch people who written songs be able to take them and make them even more amazing.
This is made all the more special because my son enjoys watching with me. We watch every week as songwriters pitch their songs. We talk about what we like and what we don’t like. When it comes time for the winner to be chosen, we cast our vote for who we believe is deserving. We pick some right, we pick some wrong, and we always enjoy doing it.
One very cool development from all of this is my son is starting to write songs. He is 11, and I am so proud of what he is coming up with. It is amazing to me that he has so much to say at such a young age.
Over the past few days we have been in my office together playing through one of his songs. It is a little rough, but full of so much promise. I look forward to working with him as we turn this into something we are both proud of. That won’t be hard, because I’m already so proud that my heart swells.
